 Aiming for the new energy development in the 21th century fundamental studies on the plasma physics and solid state mechanics are performed including the basic principle of high temperature and high density plasma, the interaction between plasma and solid surface, property changes of materials used in the high energy environments, research and development of the structural materials used in the extreme plasma environment etc.

· Study of the physics of turbulence and phase transition in the high temperature plasma
· Fundamental study of lattice defects and strength of materials
· Fundamental study of neutron irradiation damaged Fe based steel
· Study of the plasma-wall interaction in QUEST
