題　目：	Observing and Understanding Clouds: Challenges and Opportunities
要　旨：	Clouds are the biggest uncertainty in our current climate and weather models due to our limited understandings of cloud microphysical and dynamical processes spanning over large spatial and temporal scales and of strong interactions of cloud, radiation, dynamics, and thermodynamics. First, the general challenges in observing and understanding cloud physical processes will be reviewed. Then, I will present new progresses in developing new cloud observation capabilities with the synergy of multi-sensor from different platforms including algorithm and instrument developments. These new observations open the door to understand cloud related processes better at different scales. As an example, I will present an approach to effectively combine observations from different platforms and model simulations to understand the heterogeneous ice generation on the global scale. The results will highlight the new potentials to tie better aerosol and cloud properties on the global scales and to improve cloud parameterizations in climate models. At the end of the talk, the future directions in the cloud study will be briefly discussed.
