Research in this Section

The Section of Free Surface/Interface Dynamics is one of six Sections in the Division of Fundamental Mechanics, and its major area of research is interactions of fluid with body or atmosphere. More specifically, the wave-body interaction in severe waves and the dynamics on the interface between two fluids with different density. Current research themes are:

• Hydroelastic behavior of a very large floating airport in waves
  
• Numerical study on the dynamics of a floating body in large-amplitude waves
  
• Interactions of water waves with a great number of floating columns supporting a large flexible structure
  
• Analytical and numerical study on the slamming of a body onto the free surface
  
• Hydrodynamic force on an oscillating body in two-layer or stratified fluid
• Nonlinear interactions of a moving body with ambient waves
