![]() The Shipbuilders' Association of Japan The Shipbuilders' Association of Japan (SAJ) was established as an unincorporated organization in 1947. Subsequently, it has grown both in name and in substance, as shipbuilding companies in Japan gradually became better equipped for the construction of large oceangoing vessels. In August 1951, the association acquired juridical status as an incorporated association under the supervision of the Ministry of Transport (the predecessor of today's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport).

The Nippon Kaiji Kyokai (ClassNK)Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, known as ClassNK or NK, is a ship classification society. It is what is known under Japanese law as a public service foundation and in its Act of Endowment, its ultimate goal is expressed as: "to contribute to the development of maritime service for the protection of human life and property at sea". Environmental protection has also become an increasingly major concern.

The Shipbuilding Research Center of JapanShipbuilding Research Center (SRC) is a public-service corporation established in 1967, succeeding to the towing tank and its know-hows from the former Ship Research Institute. SRC is in charge of entrusted experiments on ship-hull-form development and propulsion system, and also from 2000 the development of Mega-Float as a means of utilizing the ocean space.
