We held the Mini-Workshop on Interactions between the Middle Atmosphere and the Troposphere at Nishijin Plaza. The workshop drew a cumulative attendance of 25 participants from South Korea, the United States, and Japan, with discussions focusing on stratosphere–troposphere interactions.
QUASR has been established at Kyushu University. Eguchi is affiliated with its Space Quantum Industry Education Design Division and will pursue research applying quantum sensing to Earth observation.
RIAM hosted a joint workshop for early-career Earth-observation satellite researchers and researchers studying atmosphere–ocean–land interactions using satellites, as part of its joint-use research program. Eguchi gave an invited talk on atmospheric observation missions using small satellites. Students and early-career participants from atmospheric, oceanic, land, and information sciences, as well as industry and government, actively exchanged ideas.
Professor Seok-Woo Son of Seoul National University (SNU) has joined the Center for Oceanic and Atmospheric Research as a project faculty member. He will stay with the Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences group for three months.
On the second day of the meeting, Nagai, a second-year master’s student in our laboratory, presented a poster on the contribution of middle- and upper-level water vapor to extreme-event prediction, based on data assimilation experiments using NICAM-LETKF.
Eguchi also gave an oral presentation entitled “Stratospheric dynamics opens new possibilities for understanding and predicting tropospheric weather” in the session associated with the Ogura Special Lecture.
The Forum for Earth Observation from Space (FEOS) Award ceremony and commemorative lecture took place at the 2024 conference of the Remote Sensing Society of Japan. Further details are available below.
