Welcome to Moon Laboratory

To Candidates
You don't need to have any knowledge or experience in plasma, but you do need to be motivated.

Outline of the Laboratory

Plasma is a state that exists universally in the universe. The study of plasmas will lead to the understanding of the natural world and to technological innovations such as nuclear fusion. In our laboratory, we are conducting experimental research on turbulent plasmas and their structure formation. In particular, turbulence is thought to play a major role as a plasma escape mechanism (turbulent transport), and understanding of plasma turbulence is an essential element for the realization of nuclear fusion.

In turbulent flows, there are fluctuations of various time and space scales, and they interact with each other to maintain their state. Therefore, the following are the main research topics.

How to accurately measure turbulent fluctuations on various time and space scales

How to analyze the obtained fluctuation data

How to find new knowledge and rules from the results of analysis

This laboratory also conducts research activities together with the Fujisawa & Nagashima laboratory in the field of Plasma and Turbulence Experiment.

We are currently using the tokamak PLATO and the linear plasma PANTA at the Institute of Applied Mechanics, Kyushu University, to explore the basic theory of turbulent plasmas, and the spherical tokamak QUEST as a high-temperature torus plasma device related to nuclear fusion, to explore the universal principles of transport and structure formation in turbulent plasmas. We are also exploring the universal principles of transport and structure formation in turbulent plasmas.
