- 1. Categories of Joint Research
All joint research programs include "cross-disciplinary" research. In addition, applicant's qualifications for "International Joint Research" have been changed from "foreign-registered delegates residing abroad" to "applicants living abroad".
1-1. Designated Joint Research
Research subjects for the Designated Joint Research program are approved by the Board for Joint Research at the Joint Usage / Research Centers for Applied Mechanics. Collaborators are required to promote research activities with related researchers in RIAM. When the proposed research is relevant to the following subjects (sub-subjects) for Designated Joint Research, please apply in this category.
Subject-1 ( Renewable Energy Dynamics )
- Pioneering Materials Informatics to Accelerate Energy Materials Development
- Integrator :
- Akira Kusaba (Renewable Energy Dynamics)
Subject-2 ( Cross-Disciplinary )
- Mathematical Modeling of Non-equilibrium Phenomena in Fluids and Plasmas
- Integrator :
-
Yusuke Kosuga (Nuclear Fusion Dynamics)
Yohei Onuki (Earth Environment Dynamics)
Subject-3 ( Cross-Disciplinary )
- Data Processing Automation and Optimization using IoT and Big-Data Technologies
- Integrator :
-
Makoto Hasegawa (Nuclear Fusion Dynamics)
Zhu Hongzhong (Renewable Energy Dynamics)
1-2. International Joint Research
International Joint Research is one of the joint research programs based on applicant-proposed joint research from applicants living abroad, thus contributing to globalization of research activities in RIAM. Collaborators are required to promote this research with researchers in RIAM. Joint research in this category is encouraged for a two-year period. Please refer to Section 2 listing the research subjects of the three divisions (Earth Environment Dynamics, Nuclear Fusion Dynamics and Renewable Energy Dynamics). If your proposed subject is beyond the scope of subjects for one division, please declare your interest in multiple divisions (cross-disciplinary) clearly.
1-3. Early Career Joint Research ( A / B )
Early Career Joint Research is one of the joint research programs to provide career development opportunities through collaborative researches for non-permanent young researchers, such as research fellows, doctoral students, and postdoctoral fellows. Please refer to the research subjects listed in Section 2 for the three divisions (Earth Environment Dynamics, Nuclear Fusion Dynamics and Renewable Energy Dynamics), and find a relevant division for application. If your proposed subject is beyond the scope of subjects for one division, please declare your interest in multiple divisions (cross-disciplinary) clearly. Type A and Type B are set up from FY2024. The research grant of Type A for each application is up to 1 million yen per year, which covers travel and equipment expenses. The research grant of Type B for each application is up to 250,000 yen per year. The joint research period is two years in principle. If there is an interruption in research due to life events during the research period, we can extend the research period. On an application, please get in touch with your RIAM advisor in advance. Applications will only be accepted for Type A above. If Type A is rejected due to the selection, the application will continue to be selected for Type B. If you do not wish to transfer to Type B, you can state this in your application form.
Early Career Joint Research is offered by Nuclear Fusion Division and Renewable Energy Dynamics Division in 2025.
1-4. Standard Joint Research
Standard Joint Research is one of the joint research programs based on applicant-proposed joint research. Joint research in this category is promoted for a one-year period. Please consult with the RIAM advisor regarding the use of the facilities, equipment, devices, data, etc. in the RIAM.
1-5. Research Workshops
Research Workshops are a joint research category for holding workshops on applicant-proposed research subjects. The workshops should be planned around a well-defined aim, and not only cover lectures and presentations.
